Douglas House is located in Castle Douglas
Castle Douglas has an interesting history but real development began around 1790. It currently has a population of around 3500 and is somewhat old-fashioned in that it's busy high street offers a wide variety of individual privately owned shops and there is an active cattle market where regular livestock and show sales are held.
The layout of the town is based on the grid system and the whole of the town is within easy walking distance of Douglas House.
The designation of Castle Douglas as the Food Town is indicative of the artisan producers of quality ingredients - there are even four independent butchers from which the locals can choose excellent quality products.

A short stroll from Douglas House will bring you to Carlingwark Loch, located at the bottom of Queen Street. There is a beautiful park from where it is possible to set out on 'Lovers Walk' which will take those wanting to stretch their legs on an interesting and scenic circuit of the loch. This will take around 1 1/2 hours. |
